Super bolt

Superbolt tensioners are designed as direct replacements for conventional nuts and bolts — threaded onto a new or existing bolt, stud, threaded rod or shaft. The main thread positions the tensioner against a hardened washer and the load-bearing surface.

Once positioned, tensioning is accomplished with simple hand tools by torquing the jackbolts that encircle the main thread. The jackbolts transfer preload evenly into the main thread and, consequently, onto the joint — the main thread is tightened in pure tension.

  • Tightening the jackbolts generates a strong axial thrust force directed against a hardened washer. Their small friction diameter creates high thrust with relatively little torque input.
  • Loads transfer through the nut body, positioned on the main thread by hand
  • The axial force of many jackbolts, plus the opposing reaction of the main bolt head, creates a strong clamping force on the flange.
  • The jackbolt thrust force creates an equally strong reaction force in the main bolt
